The Challenge
Engineering Change Notifications (ECNs) are critical for communicating design and process changes in product development, manufacturing, and installation. As the volume of ECNs increased each month, managing them through email quickly became unmanageable. Relying on email for coordination led to fragmented communication, difficulty tracking approvals, and no clear visibility into the status of ECNs across many departments. This lack of oversight caused frequent delays and made it nearly impossible to monitor and control the overall ECN workflow.
The Solution
Apridata designed and delivered a custom ECN Management application to address the growing complexity of managing Engineering Change Notifications across multiple departments. Built as a secure, Office 365-authenticated desktop web app, the system centralises the creation, tracking, and approval of ECNs involving Production, Purchasing, Materials and many other teams. It replaces disjointed email-based workflows with a structured process that includes personalised action lists, colour-coded status dashboards, and interactive visualisations of each ECN’s progress. Users can view departmental updates, add comments, and update statuses in real time, all backed by a complete audit trail. The application also features intuitive form-based ECN creation, configurable category and reason codes, and automated email alerts for deadlines. A detailed graphical view presents ECNs as interactive node-edge diagrams, making it easy to assess change impact at a glance. The modular design ensures extensibility for future features while offering immediate operational transparency and improved collaboration.
